The Toronto Raptors can’t catch a break.
Already severely shorthanded, the Raps saw another one of their starters go down on Monday against the Chicago Bulls as centre Jakob Poeltl suffered a left groin injury.
The injury appeared to occur when Poeltl slipped on a spot on the floor that the referees had just wiped down with towels. He headed back to the team’s locker room under his own power and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest shortly after.
After the game, Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic said that Poeltl will undergo imaging and the team should know more on Tuesday. Rajakovic added that Poeltl was feeling pretty sore.
Poeltl, 29, has been one of the bright spots for the 7-19 Raptors this season, as he came into Monday’s game averaging a career-high 15.9 points and 11.3 rebounds through 25 games.
The Raptors big man had six points and five rebounds in 21 minutes against the Bulls before he was forced to exit.
Toronto is already without two of its regular starters, as Scottie Barnes (ankle) and Immanuel Quickley (elbow) are still working their way back from injuries.
