Patrick Mahomes has a new backup.

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly come to terms with free-agent quarterback Gardner Minshew.

The contract is for one year, although the financial terms were not immediately known.

Minshew was released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday with a failed physical designation. He missed the second half of the season in 2024 with a fractured collarbone.

The six-year veteran made nine starts and 10 appearances for the Raiders last season, passing for 2,013 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2023 while a member of the Colts and has also played for the Jaguars and Eagles.

Carson Wentz served as the Chiefs’ backup in 2024. The Raiders acquired quarterback Geno Smith in a trade with the Seahawks to replace Minshew.
