The Toronto Raptors are trading point guard Dennis Schroder and centre Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets for guard Spencer Dinwiddie. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the move on Thursday.
This will be the seventh team Schroder will have played for in his NBA career. The 30-year-old veteran signed a two-year, $25 million fully-guaranteed contract with Toronto in the off-season after championing Germany to FIBA World Cup Gold in the summer, where he also won MVP.
Schroder has averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game, with shooting splits of 44.2 per cent from two and 35 per cent from three in 51 games for the Raptors.
The deal also sent veteran big man Young to Brooklyn for the second time in his career, however, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Nets waived the 35-year-old.
The Raptors traded for Young in 2022, and he played in over 100 games for the organization, including starting six games this year.
Through all of this, Toronto also waived the newly acquired Dinwiddie to avoid a $1.5 million contract bonus for games played. He was set to be an unrestricted free agent in the off-season, but will coveted by playoff teams in the buyout market.
In 48 games this season with the Nets, the 30-year-old has averaged 12.6 points, 6 assists and 3.3 rebounds on 39.1 per cent shooting from the field, and 32 per cent from three.
