The Houston Rockets will have to make do without their lead guard for a little while.

Fred VanVleet was ruled out on a “week-to-week” basis by head coach Ime Udoka, Danielle Lerner of The Houston Chronicle reported on Monday.

VanVleet, 30, exited the Rockets’ Saturday game against the Brooklyn Nets in the second quarter after appearing to roll his right ankle.

He did not return and was replaced in the lineup by backup guard Aaron Holiday.

VanVleet has started all 45 of his appearances this season for the 32-16 Rockets, averaging 14.6 points and 5.8 assists in 35.5 minutes per game.

However, the former Raptor’s three-point mark of 34.4 per cent is just a tick higher than his career-low of 34.2 set during his final season in Toronto.

Houston begins a four-game road trip Monday night against the New York Knicks, where it will also be without big men Alperen Sengun and Jock Landale.
