The Ottawa Senators have a new centre.

Forward Lars Eller signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract to join the Senators, the team announced on Tuesday. The deal also includes bonuses and could reach a maximum of $2.25 million.

Eller, 36, played 63 games for Washington last season as the Capitals finished first in the Eastern Conference.

The Danish forward recorded six goals and nine assists before adding one helper in nine post-season games.

A veteran of 1,116 NHL games, Eller has played with the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Capitals, Colorado Avalanche and Pittsburgh Penguins. He won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Capitals in 2018.

Now, he’ll provide depth down the middle for Ottawa, which ended a long post-season drought last season before falling in six games in Round 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
