Vancouver Canucks fans are voicing their displeasure with the club’s handling of the Bruce Boudreau saga.
As the embattled Canucks bench boss seemingly watches his final days with the club tick away, and his apparent successor already reportedly hand-picked, Vancouver’s faithful fans have thrown their support behind the 68-year-old loud and clear against the Colorado Avalanche.
The crowd at Rogers Arena began chanting ‘Bruce there it is!’ following Elias Pettersson’s second period goal to shrink Colorado’s lead to 3-1, leading to a small yet emotional gesture from Boudreau in response.
Canucks fans have been up to their disruptive pro-Boudreau shenanigans all night, which also included a sign that read “We stand with Bruce.”
“It’s unbelievable,” Boudreau told reporters after the game. “I mean, I’ve only been here a year but it will go down in my memory books, out of the 48 years I’ve played and coached, the most incredible thing I’ve ever experienced on a personal level. Other than winning championships, of course. It’s very touching.”
The Canucks fan in question tweeted during the game that he was warned and subsequently told by arena staff to display his sign during stoppages only.
Vancouver General Manager Patrik Allvin as well as President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford have yet to make any official declarations on Boudreau’s future despite the ongoing noise surrounding the team.
