New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s job status will remain a question as the eliminated team enters the final week of the season.
Before Monday’s home finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boone told reporters he has not been told whether he’ll return next year, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
Boone has one more season plus a club option on his current deal, according to NJ.com.
The Yankees (78-77) were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday following a 7-1 loss to Arizona. The team is attempting to avoid finishing with a losing record for the first time since 1992.
New York has been hit hard by injuries this year with 37 injured-list stints.
Since becoming Yankees manager at the start of the 2018 season, Boone had guided the team to the playoffs every year before this campaign.
However, the Yankees have not advanced to the World Series during his tenure.
The Yankees begin a series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet Plus.
