Canada’s Denis Shapovalov cruises into third round in Washington

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov breezed into the third round of the Mubadala City DC Open in Washington.

The Richmond Hill, Ont., native defeated sixth-seeded Adrian Mannarino of France 6-2, 6-1 in just under an hour during second-round action Tuesday.

Shapovalov fired seven aces and won 86 per cent on first serve while converting four of his seven break point attempts.

Mannarino was unable to break Shapovalov and had three double faults plus 17 unforced errors.

Shapovalov will next play No. 12 seed Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia on Wednesday.
