The Honda Indy Toronto is expected to make its long-awaited return to the NTT IndyCar schedule for the 2022 season.

The 36th edition of the race is scheduled for July 15-17, 2022 on the Exhibition grounds. It is part of the 17-race 2022 schedule, released on Sunday.

For the past two years, the race was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic after the City of Toronto cancelled in-person events. The Toronto race has been an annual event running through the Exhibition grounds and Lake Shore Blvd. since 1986.

The 2022 schedule will start on Feb. 27 with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The last time the season started in February was back in 2004.

“This calendar provides a level of balance between temporary street circuits, road courses and ovals, and that variety and required versatility from our drivers are important, distinguishing attributes of NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing,” Penske Entertainment Corp. president and CEO Mark Miles said.

“The continuity among our events and the growth in the number of teams showcase our strong positioning and continued momentum.”
