MONTMELO, Spain — Motorsport’s governing body has approved the return of Marussia in Formula One this season.

F1 says on its website on Friday that Marussia’s "application to compete has now been formally approved by the FIA, subject to the team’s full compliance with the 2015 regulations."

Marussia went into bankruptcy protection in October, and a London-based administrator shut down the team a month later.

Marussia missed the last three races of last season, when fellow struggler Caterham also folded.

The team, which began as Virgin in 2010, has since received new financial backing.

The season begins at the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks.
