MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve will be behind the wheel for two NASCAR Nationwide stops this season.
The 41-year-old from Iberville, Que., will drive for Penske Racing at Wisconsin’s Road America on June 23 and in Montreal on Aug. 18 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve — the track named after his father.
Jacques Villeneuve will drive the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger for both NNS races.
"I appreciate Penske Racing giving me the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of the No. 22 Dodge this season," said Villeneuve in a statement. "Road America and Montreal are two of my favourite racetracks. I feel, after winning the pole last year at Montreal, that we can have a lot of success.
"A NASCAR victory is something I want."
Villeneuve has made 10 NASCAR starts over the past five seasons, including seven in the Nationwide Series. His top finishes in NASCAR are third at Montreal in 2010 and third at Road America in 2011.
Villeneuve is one of only three drivers to win open-wheel racing’s triple crown — the Indianapolis 500, the IndyCar championship and the Formula One Series world title.
