Fellows, Patrick eye win at Watkins Glen

Ron Fellows re-joins JR Motorsports in the No. 5 Canadian Tire Chevrolet for Saturday’s Zippo 200 at The Glen in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Expectations are high for the Canadian driver and he said in a team press release that he’s simpling heading into the weekend at Watkin’s Glen looking to win.

“The expectations are high, and I feel really good about it,” Fellows said. “We had a strong car at Road America and that’s the same car we have for this weekend.

“I have always had great success at the Glen. It’s a track that suites my driving style. It’s like a second home for me, and I’m really looking for-ward to it.”

His JR Motorsports teammate Danica Patrick is also aiming high at The Glen.

The former IZOD IndyCar Series driver was bumped from the Road America race at Elkhart, Wis., after an incident with Jacques Villeneuve and she’s looking for a better result in the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet.

“After the race Road America, (ran top-five all day before last-lap incident with Jacques Villeneuve) I’m looking forward to turning right again,” Patrick said in a statement. “I feel like Watkins Glen has a lot of the same rhythm as Elkhart. It’s a little smaller, but we’ll just take it one corner at a time.”

Patrick admitted the mindset heading to a road course isn’t exactly what she expected in NASCAR.

“It’s definitely an interesting mindset for me, to be looking forward to road courses, since that was part of why I wanted to leave IndyCar,” Patrick said. “A lot of the NASCAR drivers don’t have a lot of experience on road courses. IndyCar had a lot of focus on road racing, so that type of racing is where I came from.”
