DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR’s Nationwide Series is returning to Montreal.

Stock car racing will appear on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the fifth consecutive year, NASCAR announced Wednesday.

"The lease to run the track here at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with Parc Jean Drapeau will probably be a three-year agreement," said Francois Dumontier, president of Octane Management, which promotes the annual event. "So we can say that we will have a NASCAR race here for the next three years and, hopefully, further on down the road."

The race is scheduled for Aug. 18, 2012.

The 14-turn layout is one of three road-course events on the schedule, along with Road America and Watkins Glen International.

"We are happy to see that we have contributed to making this an essential event in the minds of NASCAR, one of the ‘crown jewels’ of the series," said Dumontier.
