MONTREAL — It appears Jacques Villeneuve has cut ties with his longtime manager Craig Pollock.
The Journal de Montreal reported the former Formula One champion from Iberville, Que., split with Pollock after 15 years together.
The news comes just weeks before the start of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.
"Craig has a new wife and he seems to want to concentrate on his new family life which will be centred in Europe," Villeneuve told the Journal. "For my part, I choose to base myself here in Canada, with my family, in order to pursue my career as a NASCAR driver. It’s going well so far with Bill Davis Racing. I want to concentrate on it and do my things here."
The two had been friends since the early 1980s and Pollock, who’s based in Monaco, has been Villeneuve’s manager since 1992, when the Canadian was just embarking on his racing career.
Villeneuve, the 1998 Formula One champion, drove seven Craftsman trucks events and made his Nextel (now Sprint) Cup debut on the harrowing Talledega oval last year for Bill Davis Racing, finishing 21st.
