DURBAN, South Africa — Toronto’s Robert Wickens won a sprint event during the seventh round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport on Sunday.
Wickens was the polesitter and led the entire race. It was only the second victory by a Canadian in the series following Sean McIntosh’s Indonesian feature race win in 2006.
In Sunday’s 70-minute feature, Wickens nearly won his second race of the day. He was unable to pass Switzerland’s Neel Jani before the race was stopped on the 40th lap.
Canada is now eighth in the overall A1GP standings.
