Canada will have to regroup after a tough start to the Little League World Series on Wednesday.
Vancouver Little Mountain, representing Canada at the tournament for the second year in a row and third time in the past five years, lost 7-0 to a South Korean team representing the Asia-Pacific region in South Williamsport, Pa.
The Asia-Pacific rep has played in the International Bracket final of the Little League World Series seven of the past 10 years.
South Korean teams are now 8-0 in openers at the event.
Canada did have some highlight-reel plays on defence, especially a beautiful relay from outfielder Kian Sandhu to shortstop Cruz Krpan to catcher Jason Mezzarobba to nail a South Korean runner at the plate with the game still scoreless in the second inning.
Canada starter Jacob Massel gave up four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
South Korea's Ji Hwan Hong hit the first home run of the event in the third inning.
Canada had three hits against four South Korean pitchers.
Canada faces elimination in its next game — on Saturday against the loser of Thursday's game between Mexico and Australia.
The 20-team event features players aged 10 to 12.
