Angels’ Mike Trout, Dodgers’ Mookie Betts favourites on MLB MVP odds

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal joins Good Show to discuss how the MLB may adjust how it uses venues if the season gets pushed into the winter season.

As the long wait continues for the start of the 2020 MLB season, it’s Mike Trout atop the odds to win AL MVP as the -110 betting favourite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The 28-year-old All-Star outfielder is coming off yet another spectacular campaign with the Los Angeles Angels, belting a career-high 45 home runs and adding 110 RBI in just 134 games on his way to a record-tying third career AL MVP award win.

Trout is followed on the AL MVP odds by New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who lags as a +900 second favorite at sports betting sites. Judge has been hobbled by shoulder and rib injuries since late in the 2019 season, but should be set to go when baseball returns. Despite his health struggles Judge continued to produce last season, hitting 27 home runs and compiling a respectable .272 batting average, and is set as a -115 wager to hit over .275 in 2020 at sportsbooks.

Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman follows at +1200 on the AL MVP odds, just ahead of Judge’s Yankees teammate Gleyber Torres at +1400, while the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani rounds out the front of the pack at +1800 odds.

Bregman has shown steady improvement in his four seasons with the Astros and is coming off a career year in 2019 when he set personal bests with 41 home runs, 112 RBI, and a .296 batting average. However, the 25-year-old will likely have to endure a difficult year in the wake of the off-season scandal stemming from Houston’s sign-stealing during their run to the 2017 World Series title.

Ohtani sits as an intriguing option on the AL MVP odds. The 25-year-old was limited by injury to a role as designated hitter last season, but is expected to once again return to the Angels starting rotation this year as well as take a regular turn at the plate, where he hit .286 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI last season.

Over in the National League, Mookie Betts will be aiming to become just the second player in MLB history to win MVP honours in both leagues when he makes his Los Angeles Dodgers debut as a +350 favourite on the NL MVP award odds.

The 2018 AL MVP winner was dealt to Los Angeles along with pitcher David Price over the winter, strengthening an already fearsome Dodgers squad that now sits deadlocked with the Yankees as +350 co-favourites on the World Series odds.

Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr. sits second as a +450 wager on the NL MVP odds for 2020, ahead of 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich at +700 odds, and Cody Bellinger at +900 odds.
