Houston Astros‘ third baseman Alex Bregman has donated 1,000 quarantine food kits to the Houston Food Bank to help ensure that youth affected by school closures will be able to have a source of food.

Each kit serves 28 meals, according to the Houston Food Bank. In a Twitter post, Bregman urged others in the community to chip in if they were able.

“With our help, the Houston Food Bank is assembling quarantine food kits so our students and their families don’t need to worry about their next 28 meals,” Bregman tweeted. “Please join me in helping our community, every little bit counts.”

According to a count done by The New York Times, there are 53 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Houston.

In an effort to help stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, MLB delayed the start of its season by at least two weeks and suspended the rest of its spring training schedule.

Athletes from all sports have been chipping in to do what they can to help communities deal with the effects of COVID-19, ranging from financial contributions to part-time and hourly event staff at arenas to donations to UNICEF.
