The Oakland Athletics have released former Toronto Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada, the team announced Tuesday.

Estrada, 36, was only able to make five starts for Oakland prior to his release due to a lumbar strain in his back. Estrada was ineffective in the outings, recording an 0-2 record and 6.85 ERA while giving up seven home runs.

The right-hander signed a one-year, $4-million contract with the Athletics this past off-season.

In addition to the Athletics and Blue Jays, Estrada has pitched for the Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers over the course of his 12-year MLB career. His most notable performance was during the Blue Jays’ 2016 playoff run, when Estrada pitched 8.1 innings of one-run ball in a convincing Game 1 ALDS win over the Texas Rangers.

The Sonora, Mexico native owns a career record of 62-68 with a 4.29 ERA.
