Baseball America: Norris tops Jays’ prospect list

Daniel Norris debuted with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014.

Daniel Norris ranks as the Toronto Blue Jays’ best prospect on Baseball America’s annual list of the organization’s top young players.

Right-handers Aaron Sanchez and Jeff Hoffman rounded out the top three, followed by outfielder Dalton Pompey and shortstop Franklin Barreto.

While Norris, Sanchez and Pompey reached the MLB level in 2014, many of the Blue Jays’ top 10 prospects are just beginning their professional careers. For example, Hoffman, who’s recovering from Tommy John surgery, catcher Max Pentecost and right-hander Sean Reid-Foley were top selections in the amateur draft this past summer.

Franklin Barreto, an 18-year-old shortstop, made the top 10 after batting .311/.384/.481 for the Blue Jays’ single-A Vancouver affiliate in 2014. Right-hander Roberto Osuna, shortstop Richard Urena and right-hander Miguel Castro rounded out Baseball America’s list.
