The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Aledmys Diaz from the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday for minor-league outfielder J.B. Woodman.

Diaz, 27, was named an all-star in 2016 in his rookie MLB season. He hit .300 and finished fifth in National League Rookie of the Year voting.

Diaz began the 2017 season with St. Louis, but was demoted to triple-A Memphis after struggling. He hit .259/.290/.392 seven home runs and 20 RBIs, numbers that were augmented by a September call-up.

Woodman, 22, was the Blue Jays second round pick (57th overall) in the 2016 draft. He spent the 2017 season mostly playing centre and right field for Lansing (single-A) in the Midwest League.

Woodman appeared in 96 games, batting .240 with 19 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and 45 RBIs.
