The Toronto Blue Jays have activated first baseman Justin Smoak from the injured list ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Kansas City Royals. Outfielder Billy McKinney was optioned to triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Smoak, 32, was placed on the injured list on June 18 with a quad injury. In 62 games this season the 10-year veteran is hitting .225/.364/.423 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs.
McKinney, 24, has split time between the majors and triple-A this season. In 46 games with the Blue Jays he’s hitting .215/.272/.369 with four home runs and 11 RBIs.
In other Blue Jays news, Sean Reid-Foley will make his second start of the season for Toronto on Friday. The 23-year-old has a 5.87 ERA in 13 starts at triple-A this season.
