TORONTO – Shortstop Jose Reyes was activated from the disabled list by the Toronto Blue Jays Monday while popular infielder Munenori Kawasaki was optioned to triple-A Buffalo to make room on the roster.
Reyes has been out since April 27 with a cracked rib and oblique strain and returns to a lineup that dearly misses his dynamism atop the batting order. He went 4-for-11 with two walks during three rehab games with the Bisons over the weekend, proclaiming himself pain-free in the field afterwards
Getting him back is a huge relief for the Blue Jays middle infield, which is also without second baseman Devon Travis, on the DL with soreness in his left shoulder.
Kawasaki, a fan favourite for his exuberant personality, spent the weekend with the Blue Jays, going 1-for-5 with a walk while helping cover second base in three games.
Ryan Goins and Steve Tolleson are likely to share time at second base in place of Travis now that Reyes is back.
