Blue Jays designate Brett Oberholtzer for assignment

Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins joins Primetime Sports to discuss the art of making a deal in the MLB and how his team was able to benefit from the strength of other teams.

The Toronto Blue Jays designated left-hander Brett Oberholtzer for assignment on Tuesday to make room for outfielder Nori Aoki.

Oberholtzer was called up to the Blue Jays from triple-A Buffalo Monday, but did not play in the 7-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The 28-year-old was 3-7 with a 4.48 ERA in 18 starts and 94.1 innings for the Bisons.

Aoki was acquired by Toronto before Monday’s trade deadline in the deal that sent left-hander Francisco Liriano to the Houston Astros.
