Forget Bringer of Rain. How about Josh Donaldson, Bringer of Shave?
That’s the moniker the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman will adopt when he stars in an upcoming commercial to promote a Philips Norelco shaving product.
The tidbit is just one of the nuggets that Donaldson, a finalist for the American League MVP award that will be announced on Thursday, dropped in a Q & A with Sports Illustrated.
Here are a few more things Donaldson revealed in the interview:
Smack talk
Donaldson says that he and Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista engaged in some pretty heavy smack talk throughout the season about stolen bases and home runs.
“I would let him know that I was beating him in homers throughout the entire season,” Donaldson said. “He came on strong at the end, (and) I was able to hold him off.”
If the third baseman ends up winning the MVP award, however, he maintains he won’t be bragging about that to Joey Bats.
Nice hair, though
During this past season fans saw Donaldson’s hair take on plenty of different styles, from a sharp fade to a man bun to whatever it was that he was rocking in the playoffs.
So, what’s next?
Donaldson wants to mimic the hair of actor Travis Fimmel, who plays lead character Ragnar Lothbrok in the History channel show Vikings.
Talkin’ like an MVP
Donaldson and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout are the front-runners for AL MVP, but the Bringer of Shave has his own thoughts on that race, judging by this revealing quote.
“Playing against Mike Trout, you understand how dynamic he is and what a great player he is,” Donaldson told SI. “I don’t necessarily consider him an opponent as far as the award is concerned. It’s definitely been interesting throughout this process.”
