Blue Jays’ farm system ranked fifth-best in majors by MLB Pipeline

Vlad Guerrero Jr. reached base three times in his Bisons debut but Buffalo fell to Lehigh Valley 11-8.

The 2018 season hasn’t been kind to the Toronto Blue Jays, but at least fans of the team can look to the future for some solace.

The Blue Jays boast a handful of baseball’s top prospects and as a result, the team’s farm system was rated as the fifth-best in the sport, according to MLB Pipeline’s latest rankings.

Five Blue Jays are considered among MLB’s top 100 prospects with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ranked best of all. Bo Bichette (ninth), Danny Jansen (73rd), Nate Pearson (90th) and Anthony Alford (92nd) also made the list.

This latest ranking comes after the team recently added to their stable of prospects by trading away Roberto Osuna, J.A. Happ, Aaron Loup, John Axford and Seunghwan Oh in the final week of July.

The San Diego Padres topped the list with six of baseball’s top 50 prospects currently in their system, including the No. 2-ranked Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Alex Anthopoulos-led Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox and AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays were also ranked ahead of the Blue Jays.

Rounding out the top 10 were the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros and New York Yankees.
