The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to record wins in consecutive games for the first time in five weeks when they welcome the New York Yankees to town on Tuesday for the first of two meetings pegged as +140 underdogs on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Toronto ended a five-game slide with Sunday’s 8-4 win over the Detroit Tigers as a +110 road wager, but has failed to win in back-to-back contests during the 9-20 run it takes into Tuesday night’s Yankees vs. Blue Jays betting matchup at Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays have managed to win consecutive games just once since opening the campaign on a surprising 12-5 run, a string of three wins capped by a 7-4 victory in Minnesota as +114 underdogs on May 1. The club came out of that contest five games over .500 and just four games back of Boston atop the AL East, but has since tumbled to fourth in the divisional standings and now trail the Red Sox by a wide 14.5-game margin.

That has resulted in a devastating slide at the sportsbooks, where the Blue Jays have dropped to +5000 on the World Series odds, well back of the +2500 odds they sported on opening day, and to a distant +20000 on the odds to win the AL East.

Toronto has also struggled with consistency in recent meetings with the Yankees. The Blue Jays dropped three of four at Yankee Stadium in mid-April, and were outscored by a 14-2 overall margin over the last two games in that series. However, Toronto has enjoyed success against the Yankees on home turf, going 10-7 in its past 17, and opened the season by splitting a four-game set with New York at Rogers Centre.

The Yankees travel to Toronto as -165 favourites in Tuesday’s series opener after seeing a five-game win streak halted by a 4-2 loss in Detroit on Monday in the second game of a doubleheader with the resurgent Tigers.

However, consecutive losses by New York have been rare of late. The Yankees have dropped consecutive decisions just twice during the current 29-9 run that has lifted them to within a game of first-place Boston in the AL East standings, and vaulted them to -140 favourites to win the division, and +500 co-favourites, alongside the Red Sox and Houston, on the World Series odds.

In addition, even with Monday night’s loss, the Yankees have suffered the fewest road losses in the majors, and own a 16-9 record away from the Bronx.
