Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons isn’t too optimistic about infielder Maicer Izturis’ status for opening day.
Gibbons doesn’t believe Izturis will be healthy by the Jays’ game against the New York Yankees on April 6th, per Barry Davis of Sportsnet.
Izturis was scheduled for an MRI today on his groin, according to Davis.
The Jays infielder suffered the injury yesterday against the Tampa Bay Rays and had to leave the game early.
Gibbons said that Devon Travis has a chance at becoming the starting second baseman. Now that Izturis suffered this injury, the 24-year-old may get his chance.
