Toronto Blue Jays closer Ken Giles is nearing a return to the mound and, barring any late setbacks, should be available to pitch for the Blue Jays in their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The 28-year-old threw 15 pitches off a mound and has been absent since July 27 due to elbow inflammation.
Giles received a cortisone shot in his right elbow on July 30 and was not traded ahead of the MLB trade deadline as teams were uncertain about the extent of his injury.
In 35 games this season, Giles is 14-for-15 in save situations posting a 1.54 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.
