Blue Jays’ Ken Giles leaves game vs. Rays with right elbow soreness

Charlie Montoyo updates Ken Giles' status and says it's elbow tightness, then defends the Toronto Blue Jays for playing well against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Toronto Blue Jays closer Ken Giles left the club’s 6-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in the ninth inning with right elbow soreness, the team announced after the game.

The right-handed reliever gave up a hit and walked three batters in 2/3 of an inning before manager Charlie Montoyo and a team trainer went to the mound to remove him from the game. He was charged with two earned runs.

Giles dealt with elbow issues throughout the 2019 campaign.
