Blue Jays to option infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to triple-A Buffalo

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. continues to struggle making easy plays and after botching a short throw to first base is pulled out of the game.

The Toronto Blue Jays plan to option infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr., to triple-A Buffalo and call up veteran Eric Sogard to take his place, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi is reporting.

Gurriel has struggled on offence and defence all season. On Sunday against the Rays, manager Charlie Montoyo lifted Gurriel from the game after he made a throwing error from second-base in the third inning.

The 25-year-old is hitting .179/.256/.282 this season with seven RBIs and 12 strikeouts this season.

Sogard, 32, is hitting .267/.395/.433 with one home run in nine games with Buffalo this season.
