Blue Jays place Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on 10-day DL

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. attempted to avoid a tag at second base but fell awkwardly on his leg, eventually walking off the field with the help of Blue Jays trainers.

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced on Wednesday.

Gurriel is expected to miss two-to-six weeks due to a left high ankle sprain and a Grade 1 sprain of the left knee suffered during an awkward slide into second base on July 29.

The 24-year-old was in the midst of an 11-game multi-hit streak before suffering the injuries. Gurriel is hitting .322/.340/.503 this season with seven home runs and 22 RBIs.

In addition, right-hander Danny Barnes has been reinstated from the disabled list for the Blue Jays’ final game against the Oakland Athletics. The 28-year-old was placed on the DL with a right impingement on July 25.
