Blue Jays stand out in ESPN player rankings

Maybe Rajai Davis should be the starting left fielder for the Toronto Blue Jays?

Although Eric Thames, the incumbent and current favourite to land the starting job for Toronto, ranks ahead of Travis Snider in an ESPN.com ranking of the top 500 players in baseball, (Nos. 400-500 were released Wednesday), it was interesting to note that Davis ranked ahead of the two players battling it out for the position.

In addition to the three players cited above, several other former and current Blue Jays were ranked between 400 and 500 including the likes of Vernon Wells (No. 494), A.J. Burnett (No. 410) and Henderson Alvarez (No. 481).

ESPN used a panel of their own writers, analysts and bloggers to rank the top 500 players who are currently playing in the Major Leagues. They used a scale from 0-to-10 where they attempted to evaluate “the quality of each player for the 2012 season.”

Notable players include:

439) Kevin Gregg, RP, Orioles

459) Kyle Drabek, SP, Blue Jays
