The Toronto Blue Jays have re-signed relief pitcher John Axford to a minor league contract after releasing him two days ago.

Axford, 35, is currently rehabbing an elbow injury and was released shortly after the diagnosis.

The Simcoe, Ont., native had a 4-1 record with a 5.27 earned-run average over 54.2 innings in 2018 between the Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He played 45 games with Toronto last season before being dealt to the Dodgers.

The Blue Jays also signed Axford to a minor league deal on Feb. 14.
