The Toronto Blue Jays have called up catcher Reese McGuire from triple-A Buffalo, the team announced Saturday.

The 24-year-old has appeared exclusively at triple-A this season, compiling a .247/.316/.366 slash line with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 72 games.

McGuire was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates at No. 13 overall in the 2013 MLB Draft.

In a corresponding move, Toronto placed catcher Luke Maile on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain, retroactive to July 24.

Maile has struggled mightily at the plate in 2019, hitting .153 with just 17 hits (two home runs) in 111 at-bats.

In Maile’s absence, McGuire and Danny Jansen will likely take care of catching duties for the Blue Jays.
