Blue Jays relievers Axford, Tepera dealing with elbow pain

MLB insider Shi Davidi joins Arash Madani to discuss the extent of the elbow issues for both John Axford and Ryan Tepera, what opportunities these injuries may open up, and why Charlie Montoyo is raving about Brandon Drury's defence.

The Toronto Blue Jays bullpen could be looking at a couple significant losses.

Right-handers John Axford and Ryan Tepera are both undergoing medical examinations due to elbow pain. The Blue Jays are expected to reveal more information Thursday.

Axford returned to the Blue Jays in the off-season after being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the non-waiver trade deadline last July. The 35-year-old appeared in five games for the Dodgers before a fractured fibula prematurely ended his 2018 season. Axford has enjoyed a strong spring training, pitching to a 2.08 ERA in five appearances.

Tepera, 31, has spent his entire four-year career with the Blue Jays. He has been a steady contributor out of the bullpen with a career ERA of 3.49. Tepera has struggled this spring, allowing six runs in seven innings of work.
