Blue Jays’ Russell Martin could return to lineup Wednesday

Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker joins Baseball Central to discuss shutting down Aaron Sanchez, and why he’s confident that rest will fully heal the blister issue, allowing next year to be a totally different season.

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin took batting practice on Monday and could return to the lineup later this week.

Martin has been on the disabled list since Aug. 12 with a left oblique strain. The 34-year-old was in Florida last week to do some rehab on the injury but returned to Toronto to avoid Hurricane Irma.

It’s unclear for now if Martin will catch when he returns to the lineup. He has also made 10 appearances at third base this season and could be used there.

In 81 games this season Martin has hit .223/.354/.381 with 12 home runs.
