Blue Jays’ Sanchez, Chavez begin battle for fifth starter job

Despite his limited starts in the MLB, Marcus Stroman says that he feels ready to take on the role as the Blue Jays' ace.

The battle for the fifth spot in the Toronto Blue Jays rotation is about to pick up.

Aaron Sanchez and Jesse Chavez will come out of the bullpen Wednesday afternoon when the Blue Jays host the Philadelphia Phillies in their Grapefruit League home opener.

Sanchez has made it clear he wants to return to the rotation in 2016 after losing his spot midway through last season. He will be pushed primarily by Chavez, who had some success his last two years in Oakland after converting into a starter.

Drew Hutchison, who gave up a home run over two innings on Tuesday, and veteran Gavin Floyd are also in consideration for the fifth starter job.
