The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to avoid losing three games in a row for the fifth time this season when they open a three-game road series in San Francisco on Tuesday as slim -112 favourites on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Toronto has struggled since closing out the month of April on a 10-5 run, going 2-10 in its last 12 outings ahead of the team’s six-game road trip which kicks off with Tuesday night’s Blue Jays vs. Giants betting matchup at AT&T Park.

Shutting down opposing offences has been a big challenge for the Blue Jays during their current swoon. The team has surrendered seven or more runs in five of their past eight contests, and allowed an average of 5.75 runs per game over their past 12.

Winners in seven of nine contests away from Rogers Centre in mid-April, the Blue Jays have lost five of six since, getting outscored by an overall margin of 34-16 during that stretch. Now trailing the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays by 8.5 games, the Blue Jays have taken a major tumble on the World Series odds, where they now sit at a distant +20000.

The Blue Jays fell to defeat in both halves of a two-game series with the Giants at Rogers Centre, capped by a 4-0 loss as -120 home chalk on April 24, and have dropped three straight overall. However, the team took two of three from the Giants in their last visit to San Francisco back in May 2016, and have limited San Francisco to two or fewer runs in four of their last five dates at AT&T Park.

That’s bad news for the Giants, who enter Tuesday’s series opener as +102 home underdogs at betting sites after falling to defeat in five of their past eight outings. The Giants have also surrendered some big totals of late, allowing double-digit runs in five of 13 contests, and over 7.2 runs per game during that stretch.

San Francisco has also struggled to produce consistent results on home turf, going 3-7 in its past 10, fueling the club’s tumble into the NL West basement, 8.5 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Righthander Trent Thornton continues the search for his first career MLB win as he takes the mound for Toronto on Tuesday, while the Giants counter with Tyler Beede. Thornton was lit up for five earned runs and two home runs in two innings of work in a 9-1 loss to Minnesota on May 8, but allowed just three total hits in 12.0 innings over his two previous starts.
