Plans for renovations to the Toronto Blue Jays‘ spring training complex took a massive step forward on Tuesday as the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement between the city of Dunedin and the club.
A statement was posted to Facebook Wednesday.
Prospective upgrades to the Blue Jays’ Florida home include increased seating capacity, more food and beverage options, a new HD video board and expanded stadium parking, according to the release. The project will cost approximately $81 million and will include a contribution by the county “not to exceed $41.7 million.”
The renovations have been a priority for Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro. In March he said that changes to Dunedin Stadium and the team’s nearby training complex would bring about a “paradigm shift from what currently right now is just a spring training facility,” noting that he expects the endeavour to provide a competitive advantage and a facility that ranks among the very best in MLB.
