Toronto Blue Jays insider Shi Davidi joins Barry Davis to talk about the MVP debate between Josh Donaldson and Mike Trout plus Russell Martin getting a rest with catcher Josh Thole being called up.

The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled catcher Josh Thole from triple-A Buffalo ahead of R.A. Dickey’s start against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

The move will allow Thole to get in two extra starts with Dickey before rosters expand on Sept. 1 while also giving Russell Martin some additional rest. Martin has been dealing with left leg soreness.

Matt Hague, who was recalled from triple-A on Aug. 17, has been optioned to Buffalo.

Thole last played for the Blue Jays on June 2. In nine games for the Blue Jays this season, the 28-year-old is slashing .269/.345/.346.
