What should Blue Jays do at trade deadline?

Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro joined Prime Time Sports to talk about how the Blue Jays are going to approach the trade deadline and what it means for their team as they have struggled through most of the season.

The Toronto Blue Jays could face some tough decisions come July 31.

As the MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline quickly approaches and the Blue Jays’ playoff chances grow slimmer and slimmer, Mark Shapiro and company may have to decide whether the team are buyers or sellers. It was a topic discussed by Donnovan Bennett, Gare Joyce and Dan Riccio on the Sportsnet Hot Stove Saturday morning.

“As presently constituted they need some sort of disruption because this path isn’t great,” Bennett said on Sportsnet 590 The FAN. “And the talk is, ‘Well, we’re looking to add, whether it be in the short term or the long term,’ and it’s tough to do both at the same time. And this season, as much as people can say, ‘Well, they’re only five games out of a wild-card spot,’ there’s seven teams they’d have to jump and they’re only 2.5 games out of last in the American League.”

“So if you can move multiple big pieces, then sure. I think take some TNT to blow it up.”

But is that easier said than done? Listen to the full clip below:
