The Toronto Blue Jays have traded right-handed pitcher Justin Shafer to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Monday.

Last season, Shafer posted a 3.86 ERA in 34 relief appearances with the Jays, striking out 39 batters in 39.2 innings. The 27-year-old also made 24 appearances in triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons last season, posting a 3.52 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He converted seven of eight save opportunities in Buffalo.

Shafer was selected by Toronto in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The Lake Wales, Fl., was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Nov. 20.
