Blue Jays’ Tulowitzki to be reassessed Saturday after exiting vs. Angels

Watch as Jose Bautista launches a three-run HR in the top of the 13th for his first of the season and to put the Blue Jays up on the Angels.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will be reassessed Saturday after exiting Friday night’s wild 8-7, 13-inning win over the Los Angeles Angels with tightness in his right hamstring.

Decisions on a course of action will be taken then, as Tulowitzki wasn’t sure what the next steps would be. He said he hasn’t previously had hamstring issues and isn’t sure what to expect from his body.

The hamstring tightened up during the eighth inning, while he was advancing from second to third on a wild pitch. He slide safely into the bag, got up slowly, walked right to the dugout and was replaced on the basepaths by Devon Travis.

"I definitely wasn’t in a position to help us if I had to tag up or score," said Tulowitzki. "Tight. Knew I needed to get out before I further injured myself. I’m sore. Come to the locker room (Saturday), talk to the trainers, see what we got and decide where we go from there."

The Blue Jays are already without Josh Donaldson, Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ and can ill afford even a short-term absence for Tulowitzki.

He reached three times and scored twice in the wild contest Friday.

"That’s a good win. We’ve been struggling, playing not so good baseball, come on the road, at times it looked like we could have went away, but Jose (Bautista) came up big and then at the end there, (Joe) Biagini made some huge pitches. It’s tough to say in April that it’s a big win, but it definitely works for us."
