Braden Halladay, son of late Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay, has been named to the Canadian Junior National Team’s spring training roster.
Baseball Canada on Tuesday revealed the 33 players who will attend camp and compete in six games against minor-league prospects from the Blue Jays, Orioles, Tigers, Phillies and Rays.
Right-handers Ben Abram and Eric Cerantola were among highlights added to the roster, along with outfielder Denzel Clarke and third baseman Noah Naylor. That quartet was among players who represented Canada at the 2017 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup last September, where the nation finished fourth.
Greg Hamilton will once again serve as head coach, while Hall of Famer and former Blue Jays great Roberto Alomar joins the Canadian staff as a guest coach.
Braden Halladay, a right-handed pitcher who has verbally committed to Penn State, was born in Toronto, where his father played for 12 years. Roy Halladay died in a place crash on Nov. 7, 2017. The Blue Jays have announced plans to retire Halladay’s No. 32 on opening day of the upcoming regular season.
