The Atlanta Braves have promoted Alex Anthopoulos to president of baseball operations and general manager, and extended his contract through 2024, the team announced Monday.

“I am very pleased that Alex will be leading the Atlanta Braves’ baseball operations for years to come,” the team’s chairman, Terry McGuirk, said in a press release.

“Since he joined the organization, Alex has continued the winning tradition that Braves fans have come to expect.”

The 42-year-old has served as the club’s executive vice-president and general manager since joining the organization in 2017. Prior to joining the Braves, the Montreal native spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers as vice-president of baseball operations and was the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays for six seasons, culminating in the 2015 AL East title, which snapped Toronto’s 22-year post-season drought.

The Braves also announced that they had extended the contracts of Brian Snitker and his coaching staff through the 2021 season.
