Brewers give Kapler one-year contract

MILWAUKEE — Outfielder Gabe Kapler and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed Thursday to a US800,000, one-year contract.

The 32-year-old Kapler spent the 2007 season as the manager of the Greenville Drive, the class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

A nine-year major-league veteran, he has played with Detroit, Texas, Colorado and Boston. Kapler has a .270 career average with 64 homers and 302 RBIs in 850 games.
