Cardinals acquire reliever Cishek from Marlins

John Lackey threw seven strong innings after a shaky beginning and Trevor Rosenthal escaped his own jam in the ninth as the Cardinals won in a make-up game 4-3.

The St. Louis Cardinals added depth to their bullpen, acquiring relief pitcher Steve Cishek in a trade that sends minor-league pitcher Kyle Barraclough to the Miami Marlins.

Cishek, 29, has a 2-6 record with a 4.50 ERA, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 32.0 innings this season.

He has been working as a set-up man after being removed from the closer’s role and sent down to the minors earlier in 2015.

Since rejoining the big-league bullpen in mid-June, he has recorded a 0.71 ERA with a 11-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio while holding opponents to a modest .239 average.

Barraclough, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Cardinals in the 2012 MLB Draft. In 24.2 innings at double-A Springfield, he has a 3.28 ERA with 28 strikeouts, 20 walks, and eight saves.
