Veteran left-hander Clayton Richard will make his first start with the Toronto Blue Jays in Thursday’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox.
Manager Charlie Montoyo announced the move after Wednesday’s 13 inning loss to the Red Sox. Jimmy Cordero was optioned to triple-A Buffalo to make room for Richard.
The Blue Jays acquired Richard, 35, in a trade with the San Diego Padres in December but he has been out of the lineup while recovering from a knee injury.
Last season with the Padres, Richard had a 7-11 record with a 5.33 ERA and 108 strikeouts.
