Don Cherry changes lyrics to ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’ at Wrigley

Watch as Don Cherry sings Take Me Out to the Ball Game during the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field.

Don Cherry was a special guest at Saturday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The Hockey Night in Canada icon, wearing his famous cherry suit, was tasked with singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch.

Since Cherry is a Blue Jays fan, he decided to tweak the lyrics slightly.

Instead of singing, “So let’s root, root, root for the Cubbies…” Cherry sang, “So let’s root, root root for the best team…” which drew a few boos from the home crowd.

He made up it up to them, however, by giving a shout-out to the city’s NHL team.

“Thank you Chicago, and go Hawks!” he said after finishing the song.

Earlier in the day, Cherry took some time to speak with Sportsnet’s Arash Madani about the Blue Jays.
